I highly recommend Mike Gemmell as a candidate for editing and technical writing. Mike was employed by Flow Data as a Technical Writer from 2013 to 2015. Flow Data specializes in upstream oil and gas automation and produces several software and hardware products as an OEM and systems integrator. Because of the nature of competition in this industry, the pace of development is very brisk. This places direct pressure on maintaining technical documentation for new products and features.
Mike performed well in this environment, and produced numerous user guides, quick start guides, and comprehensive manuals in a timely and very professional manner. His attention to detail coupled with his ability to communicate with development staff allowed him to consistently produce documents that present complex material in clear and concise language. This was especially crucial for several new products and applications of Flow Data technology in new markets or with new customers and partners. In addition to new material, Mike was also relied upon to edit existing material to streamline it and make it more usable by engineers and field technicians. I relied on his ability to work independently with minimal supervision - a trait that I very much appreciated - to produce these documents.
In addition to the technical writing and editing, Mike was also a key member of an in-house team that examined and specified the requirements for a manufacturing / parts inventory / customer support database. He worked closely with various personnel to elicit their requirements by understanding their roles and duties (Manufacturing Manager, QA/QC control, DBA, General Manager, etc.).
Mike would be a valuable asset to any technical writing or editing effort. If you have any questions, please contact me.
